Any thoughts on how they would compare to an old 1613 like mine? |

Location: Brighty in Blighty | At the moment my creative and developmental juices are FLOWING and having these glorious intruments to compose and study on are a blessing. The 12 string has opened a pandora's box, the nylon will do the same.
I have a bunch of great tunes that would really suit a nylon and hey thats the first guitar I had so an Ovation nylon has always been on the list! |

You'll note that I also have a nylon and two twelves, so I know exactly what you mean about some pieces being suited to nylon strings or 12'ers. Of course, if you're really into breaking your knuckles and making your fingers bleed, go mandocello. |

The top bracing is different but I would guess that the difference isn't that great. The biggest difference, besides modern electronics, is the width at the nut. 2" for the 1613, 1 7/8" for the 2073. |

Location: Scotland | I sold a mid 70's 1613 when I got my 1773LX in Jan last year. Unplugged I think the older guitar may have been a little better, but that's probably down to it's age, or I could have been starting my 2nd bottle of Merlot at the time. Either way there wasn't a whole lot between them, but bear in mind that the 1613 is a deep bowl while the LX is mid. Plugged-in it's a whole other thing. The LX is much better behaved and the entire feel is much friendlier for a steel-string player. |

Location: Scotland | We know. I was referring to my 1773LX. You know, the one you got for me? A non-contour "real" roundback. One that isn't pretending to be something else.
OK, I was being a little disingenuous there, but am I the only one who finds the contour bowl incredibly uncomfortable? Maybe after 30-odd years of playing Ovations I'm used to the traditional bowl, but for me the contour is trying to solve a problen that doesn't exist. I've never experienced the "slipping off the knee" thing. I own one contour bowl guitar, but it rarely gets played because it feels so alien to me. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | It's not a solution, just an option. Just like the supershallow bowl. Lots of traditionalists didn't like it, but it provided an option that probably opened up Ovation to a who new segment of buyers.
Would be interesting to know how many people have bought an ovation beCAUSE of the contour bowl who otherwise would have choosen another brand. From what I have seen the biggest objection that potential buyers voice against Ovation is the the fact that half the body os made of plastic and it slips off their knees when they play. If you can eliminate half of that, then you should attract a few more buyers.
In the end its all personal preference. |
