I have this 12-string (Hurricane?) coming in that is going to need at least one new pickup, and I probably will just swap out for a whole new set. Any really good suggestions?

Once the original pickups were wax-potted the work fine and sound good. Kinda like a cross between an ES335 and a Gretch 6120. The only problem with changing pickups on the storms is like all Ovation's pickups they are an odd size. They don't even match to the later Ovation pickups used on the Viper/Preacher/UK2 etc. So not you only do you have to change the pickups you also need to change the mounting rings, and enlarge the cutouts in the top. There maybe some Artec pickups that with a little modifaction would work in the existing mounting rings. Master Woody might be able to shed some light on that. One possible option would be a set of "Dog-Ear" P90's. Also check out the TV Jones Filtertron replicas.

The neck to head joint is slightly odd looking IMO for a normal 12-string Ovation neck. Here\'s the ebay page Also, you have a PM about the pickups...

I find 12 strings on a narrow neck very difficult to play cleanly. Your fretboard fingering technique has to be nearly perfect. I cannot switch from a 6-sting to the Hurricane without about 15 minutes adjustment time. The strings are just too close together. I guess my technique is just too sloppy to make the transition quickly.

You might be able to do the in-phase/out-of-phase/standby with a standard toggle. It's a while since I've worked on electric guitar circuits, I'd need to draw a schematic to be certain.

Bigger question for me is whether I could handle doing the in/out phase toggle properly. I once wired a bakery mixer on 220v/3ph. Worked great...except it turned backwards. Amazing what crossing your wires will do. Doesn't someone have a site with old Ovation electric diagrams?
