I notice that harmonics at the 12th fret often set off some rattling/buzzing vibration of the pre-amp. I have solved this by wedging a tiny piece of paper down the side to prevent it but wondering if anyone else experiences this and has a better longer term solution....

Which guitar? If it's one of the newer "can" type, you can pull the preamp out and check the two phillips screws that tighten the can to the body.

It's the 06C but it's not the can holder thats rattling but the the can in the can holder!

Then just wedge a piece of paper between them.. :D

I'd still check the can screws though. My 1680 had a buzz and I found out it was the xlr lead from the preamp touching the top slightly and vibrating against it. I moved the wire and it disappeared.
