I am spending three days in LA from Sunday to Tuesday next on my way to Amelia

Any suggestions as to what guitar stores and/or places of interest are worth visiting.

I have done the Universal, Disneyland thing before.

TIA

AJ

Well, if you're up for a trek, Joshua Tree National Park is pretty unique. Or a drive up and around Lake Arrowhead and/or Big Bear Lake. Those would be pretty big trips.

Or head for San Diego and check out the Wild Animal Park, the Zoo, Sea World, Coronado Beach. Also pretty big trips.

Santa Monica Pier? HollyWeird/Sunset Strip/House Of Blues Sunday brunch (may have to buy tickets in advance)

Skydiving in Hemet/Perris? lol.

I'm sure some of the locals could turn you on to some more interesting local flavor. I wasn't there long enough to assimilate. I spent 14 months there and most of that was trying to figure out how to get the hell out. ;-)

Have a great trip, whatever you end up doing!

True Tone music and McCabe's in Santa Monica are always worth a visit. Guitar Centre in Hollywood is worth checking out just for the vintage room, and there's a bunch of other stores nearby. You could also try Normans Rare Guitars.

Anybody know if Trixie still works the Boulevard just south of Vine?

Universal Studios has a tour. Another all-day venture is to take the Amtrak to Old Town in San Diego.

How many different renditions of Gentle On My Mind do you want to learn? Seriously, with all due respect screw LA and head to south to San Diego. Go to Buffolo Brothers guitars, the zoo, gaslight district, brunch at the Del, point Loma. It's really nice.

Come by Santa Monica on Monday late afternoon and we can go by McCabe's and then grab some dinner. I'll be in LA Monday and Tuesday before doing the redeye to Florida.

If you want to do a road trip, try going north up the coast through Malibu, Ventura (bring your America CD), and into Santa Barbara. Check out the downtown and the Mission.

Only if you're carrying #45. It looked good on the wall next to it's younger sibling....

Seriously, if you're coming in on Sunday, you're probably going to be tired that day. Kick back and relax. You're going to have Monday and Tuesday here, then fly out on Wednesday. Not really enough time to go to south to San Diego (great trip tho'). I assume you're renting a car? If so, spend Monday going up to Hollywood and hit the Guitar Center, and other various music stores on Sunset. Then I'll meet you along with Bobbo in the late afternoon. We'll go to McCabes and then get some dinner.

Tuesday, drive up to Santa Barbara and Solvang. They're about 1 - 1 1/2 hours north of you. Great for wondering around and relaxing. Then you're off on Wednesday, relaxed and ready to get arrested at the waffle house on the island.....

Nice pic, Moody. I have one similar with No. 43 alongside OFC/5. Did you have a chance to A/B one against the other?

My recommendation, sleep as much as you can on the plane, and spend the first day doing the minimal amount of activity to get over the jet lag. Just get up when the sun is up, go to bed just after the sun goes down. On the first day, spend as much time as you can in the sun to reorient your body. Then on day two do stuff.

I have to agree, for me San Diego and San Fran are fun, though, I've never had the desire or need to go to LA and never been there so I can't comment.

For brand new Ovations, I have yet to see a store with a selection that beats Music Power in San Diego. I needed a couple cables when I was down there for my Grandmother's service and was floored when I saw new USA models including 2 Custom Elites, a Custom Legend, 2 County Artists and a Folklore even. Not to mention a 2080 Adamas.

I highly recommend them, at least for Os and As.

Moody's planning on the dine-and-dash again. Shades of "the incident" at Huddle House all over again.

Actually, I was thinking that we ought to go to the local heart attack haven here on the west side, Johnnie's Pastrami.

I know we're 3000 miles west of the real stuff, but this little 50's style sandwich joint is Zagat rated.

No fruits, nuts, or flakes at Johnnie's.

And Moody, bring your wallet. It's a cash only place.

Actually, that pic Bobbo posted looked like something that had been run over on the freeway in the early morning. I'm not a pastrami fan......

When I am in LA, I love to spend a day at Venice Beach. Love to see the freaks, bums, chicks, artists and freespirits. Great place. If I could, I would rent an apartment there for a month every year.
