I just picked up a Celebrity (Korean made) CC026 with a piezo bridge saddle. I removed the three shims that were under the saddle and the string height is still too high. I didn't realize that the pickup was in the saddle when I bought the thing and figured that I'd just sand the saddle down a bit.

What is the work around here? Can you remove the metal element attached to the saddle and sand or is there a lower profile saddle available?

The neck seems to be fine in terms of bow. Perhaps the nut can be filed down some?

Thanks for any advice.

Jim

Welcome Jim,

Firstly, you can't sand the saddle.

How much clearance do you have between the strings and the top of the bridge?

What string height do you have at the 12th fret?
You said the neck seems fine, how much relief do you have?

The nut won't make a big difference to the action unless it is way high.
Fret each string between the 2nd and 3rd fret, there should be just the barest of clearance between the string and the top of the first fret.

I've been playing with the guitar and now I've got 3/32 between the top of the 12th fret and the low E string and a hair less on the high E string. This is with removing all of the shims. I haven't measured the clearance between the strings and the bridge, but I'd estimate about 1/4" or so. I'll measure it to make sure. The neck now has a very slight bow so that there is just a tiny amount of clearance between the middle frets if you fret the 1st and last frets.

I'd like to go another 1/32" on the string height.
My next step is to install light strings to see if that helps a little bit.

I have a CC54i, Chinese iDea guitar...
The string height is too high for my liking, even after pulling all the shims.
I put Martin Silk-n-Steels on there and it made a big difference.
It still is too high for my liking, but it is better than it was.

The Silk-n-Steel have a really light "pull" on them, y'know?
