OK, most folks post complaints from their partners about how many guitars they own. That's not my problem -- i'm beginning to get complaints about how much i play. "You're always in there playing your damn guitar, and we don't spend enough time together."

So i just want a bit of perspective. I play maybe a 2 to 3 hours a day on the weekdays and 4 to 6 hours a day on the weekends, sometimes more if i am on a roll. I'm not a professional, nor do i play out. It's just for my own enjoyment and i want to get better.

So i was just wondering about you other folks. Do you hear this? And, how much do you play each week?

You can pretty much fill in the blank for me.

"You're always ________ and we don't spend enough time together."

1. working
2. playing your guitar
3. playing with those stupid cars
4. out with your buddies
5. goofing off
6. watching TV
7. reading the newspaper
etc etc etc

To answer the Q, I normally play maybe 30 mins to an hour maybe 5 nights a week. Maybe a bit more lately, since I've found a new bunch of guys to jam with.

Wow! I maybe get in an average of 30 minutes on weekdays and a little more on weekends. SWMBO probably wishes I'd spend more time playing and leave her alone.

I'm lucky to get an hour on a given day. That's why I got back into playing with people: A practice will run three hours, a gig can go four. Four to eight practices a month is good. Two to three gigs, a month as well! There's nothing like the adrenaline-soaked live experience to "burn it into ya"!

I do "practice" incessantly in my mind: scales, chord shapes, lines. True story.

I probably average about 3 hours a week. A little more when I'm playing with some friends. A lot less during baseball and football seasons when I'm officiating games.

My ex never seemed to care for my music, so I play a lot more often than when I was married. Debbie says she likes to hear me play and claims I've gotten a lot better just in the year that I've known her.

It definitely helps having an on-purpose music room with my guitars hanging in easy reach.

4 to 8 hrs per week average play time, plus a band rehearsal. My schedule is inconsistent, so sometimes I go 5 days without playing, then I'll have 6 days in a row off, etc. Fits and starts describes my schedule, including playing guitar.

On weekends, usually I play 2 to 5 hours on a Saturday, and a couple hours on Sunday. During the week its anything from none to several hours per day.

The wife never complains. I'm the one complaining about her (and the kids) always watching tv or playing Wii. Guitar is both a fun avocation and something to do when the family is unavailable.

30 mins. to an hour a day. All my girlfriends have liked it. My ex didn't like anything...so I don't think I have a valid benchmark. NO woman can be as bad as My ex was!

I agree with Flysig (quote: The wife never complains. I'm the one complaining about her (and the kids) always watching tv or playing Wii. Guitar is both a fun avocation and something to do when the family is unavailable.).

To "fun avocation" I might add: educational, rounding, horizon-broadening, mind-exercising, constantly rewarding, and, of course, as interactive as the broad-minded would like it to be. Who could EVER reasonably want that OUT of one's life?!?!

I don't practice as often as I should. I'm going backt to school part time studying a tough accounting course. Also, I've been in a real slump lately and just haven't felt like playing.

I may do some guitar shopping tomorrow. Maybe that will be the ticket to getting out of my slump.

2 to 5 hours a week...plus any playing out which doesn't happen as much as it should.

Good on you Greg for your regimen. It's got you well on your way to 10,000 hours.

Since having time away from work on a more permenant basis and becoming involved in so many music projects, my playing has become a daily thing. (On & off all day now) I find I wake sometimes in the night to an idea about some chord progression I am having trouble with and it is kinda like having the drive to learn again like I did when I started, years ago.

Last few days have had me busy with new work. I am singing and playing the chord progressions for King Crimson's "Dinosaur" Great music and wow does Fripp take things in directions I have not thought of. I have the feel for the electric back and am learning better stage presence through the comfort in knowing the song inside out. Work, Work, Work, Fun, Fun, Fun. I am only the second guitarist in the group. You should see the work the other guy is learning. Hopfully I can offer a schedule and get a few of you guy's to come when it's ready. Might be the only time in my life that I can have an opertunity like this again so I am going for it this time.

Depends on the material and the schedule. In a good week with moderate material, 4 to 6 hours practicing, 2-3 hours rehearsing with the band, and then a one-hour gig.

I work with people who are terminal (Hospice) so when I get home at night, I need to "decompress."
My guitar is my friend and my therapy so get in an hour a night. My wife loves music and is my greatest encourager.

I play at least an hour a day, sometimes 2, used to be hour or less until I got my ovation. I'm starting to get that "all you ever do is play your guitar" :(

Depends on what's going on. There's a "season" here. When I'm performing on a schedule, I play quite a bit. Not so much off season. When I was doing theater I didn't play at all.

One thing I have never done is sit down and make myself do anything regarding the guitar; it has always been because I wanted to at that moment. So I've never "practiced" at all, just played.
