Location: Vernon CT | I found a 1767-1 Legend dating to 1990 A bracing deep bowl W/OHSC Looks to be atleast 8.5 out of 10 in the pic's but until I actually see it not sure.
Anyone have any thoughts on this guitar? Anyone own one and give me an Idea of what you'd pay for it? Guy wants $650.00 got him down to $500.00
I think it's still a bit high in todays Market. Am I wrong? Any thoughts?

Location: Rocky River, Ohio | My 1767-6 is one of the best sounding guitars I own.
I had the neck reset on mine, along with some other cosmetic work at the mother ship.
500 is fair, but check fret wear and look for any bumps at the 12th fret where neck meets body. These 2 issues can cost 400-500 to fix (re-fret and neck reset).
I've been playing my Balladeer mid depth bowl a lot lately, so when I reach for the 1767, the bass really comes out.
Plus, I think the sunbursts in that model are pretty rare. Actually, 1767's are not that common to begin with.

Location: Michigan | Great guitar, great sound. Ernie makes good points about the fret wear and the neck bump. I have one and seen 2 others that had the bump. You can reset the neck (which I plan to do eventually). I put an angled shim under the saddle that took care of the bump problem. Without the shim the low e will buzz. With standard shims the low e will not buzz but the high e is to high off of the fret. The bass is very nice and pronounced without being overbearing, midranges are solid and the highs fit right in. I love mine. If you can pick up a player for $500 I would go for it and if send it to mother somewhere down the line to perfect it up. My K1115 that I got from Glenn was reworked and frankly looks and playes like a new guitar.
I love to lay the 1767 on my belly and pick away. It plays very easy. |

Location: SoCal | You guys are nuts. At $650 the 1767 is a guitar that competes favorable with a $2000 Taylor for a third of the price. To get one built by the factory, you'd pay $2400 (and it would still be better than the Taylor).
Yet you're trying to save $150 because the economy's in a recession? If the guitar is good, buy it (and it is good).
Michele (guitarzannie), this is the guitar you're looking for (well, grammatically, that should read "this is the guitar for which you are looking"). Spend the money and you'll never look back...... |

Thanks for the "Passionate" Advise. Hey, My profession for 25 years b/4 I got layed off was a Buyer. So it's in my nature to negotiate. :D
I will be going over to see the guitar tonight at 5:30pm. Going to look it over real well. The "Story" is he played guitar for years and as a "Gift" his son bought him this Ovation. Said he played it maybe 10 times and put it away. ( I hope he's not playing me!) Has had 2 operations on his wrists due to Carpel Tunnel Syndrome and can no longer play. This is the "last" of the guitars he has to sell. Bringing my Amp , new Battery & cable to make sure the preamp works.
I also E.M'ed Michelle as If I do buy this, I will probably be selling one of my other guitars.
Most likely my 2077LX or I'd help her get this one. Be back later to let you all know the out come. |

Location: Tuscany, Italy | I own a 1617-4. Lovely guitar with a nice sound, even if my preference goes to the X braced ones (sorry Mike ;) ).
I rescued mine on ebay a year ago for 430$ (plus shipping and tax .... the $ vs Euro was very nice at that time than it is today). The guitar (unfortunately) arrived with a bad crack on the top and I'm seriously considering to send it to MS for a top replacement. Beside that it plays like butter and has a fast neck to it. |

Location: SoCal | I've always been curious as to which sounds better, an A braced top or an X braced top. But there are other variables involved (bowl material, depth, saddle type and material, electronics or no, type of neck, etc).
Sometime in the next month or so I'm going to go out to Witko's house to play guitar and visit for a day or so. He has a K1111 reissue. Hand laid, deep cloth bowl, no electronics, bone saddle and nut (I think), old style neck with truss rod, and X braced.
I've got my rebuilt Legend which has a hand laid, deep cloth bowl, no electronices, bone saddle and nut, and an old style neck with truss rod. It's A braced. The only variable is the angle of the headstock (his has slightly stronger angle, but it shouldn't make a difference).
I'm going to make certain that both have the same strings, and then we should know, at least with that configuration of guitar, which bracing gives a better sound (or at least the differences between the two). Oughta be fun. |

[Thoughts] As an avid evilBay bargain-hunter, I have noticed that alot of people have gotten over the 'Down Economy' syndrome and are just listing their guitars for what they are Worth.
As always, there are bargains to be found. But two months ago there were many more. Alot of the sellers are just going back to the attitude of 'This is what it is worth... Buy it on Don't!'
Remember- In previous 'slow-downs' in the 70's, 80's and 90's you would have paid more in Real Dollars than most any brand guitar is selling for now.
In the 70's, a $300 Balladeer was two month's rent. Nowadays a $700 guitar is not one month's rent depending on where you live.
And as always, as for a higher price and negotiate.
Oh! And as the age, wear, and 15th fret bumps... I recently bought a 1617 Legend with all that crap. But it sounded nice and played nice and I was happy. I have since sold it with extensive disclaimers about it's flaws and the new owner is happy. Like the man said, Buy it and don't look back! |

They buggered up the HS angle and used the modern 10 degree design, not the original 14 degree. I guess they figured the service depart had enough work already.
So it'll be an exact 1:1 comparison of A vs. X |
