Location: southeast michigan | Yeah, probably a bit better. But it should, the band is now rehearsing twice a week and playing out, and I am finally getting serious about setting aside some time daily for some intense personal practice. |

| Well, my teacher says so, so it must be true. :)
With working full time and taking an accounting class part time, I haven't had the time to practice as much as I should. For some reason, though, my playing has gotten better.
However, I must say that prior to taking the accounting class, I was getting pretty burned out from all the guitar practice. Now when I set down to play, I seem much calmer and more "into" what I'm playing.
Of course, I think things would be much easier for me when I get an Ovation. :) Love the neck on the Ovations compared to my Walden.

One of the things I have used to calm myself down is playing "Looking for Space" by John Denver. I have found that if you play those chord progressions (D, Dmaj7, G, A7) slowly, they are almost dream like.
My teacher told me that I have taken a big leap forward in my playing. Kind of feels nice when I can notice it too!
I used to put so much pressure on myself, thinking about where I should be after taking lessons for 2 years. I keep comparing myself to others, but I'm trying to change that by thinking that everyone is different and progresses at a different rate.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Playing with Karl inspired me to learn a few more chords. (I have been playing fingerstyle from tabs for so long I don't know many of the chords I'm playing).
I suddenly realized that I may not do well with lessons. The things I enjoy doing are things I've learned on my own and I've quit everything that I learned from lessons. |

| Guitar teachers will disagree, but unless you're planning on being a serious pro, you need four or five lessons, if that. How to hold it, tune it, a few theory basics and off you go.
Initially you'll learn by observation, imitation and assimilation. Later by experimentation.
Been doing this for well over forty years, never "practiced" a moment, just played. Talent? Nah. Persistence. |
