Just wondering if there is a prefered choice of strings for the 07 collectors. I have EXP-16s on now and they are the only ones Ive tried.

Switching out strings is fun (in a masochistic kinda way) and it's relatively cheap. I've tried several different kinds on my O's (I also own an 07C) and I recommend you try Webstrings' Portland Acoustic 12-53's. They are inexpensive, hold up well and sound great. If money is no object try Thomastik-Infeld's SP112's. They sounded great, to me, but at $16 a set I have trouble justifying them. I liked John Pearse strings on my Larrivees, but I haven't tried them on my O's, yet. I have gotten away from coated strings here lately. I prefer the sound (and the price) of uncoated strings. Having said that, my favorite coated strings were the Elixir Nanowebs.

The main thing is to try a bunch of different strings and see what you like. It's the cheapest mod I can think of that can materially change the sound of your guitar.

I've been enjoying Elixir Nanowebs Light 12-53.

I think they work well on the 07 as it's quite a bright sounding guitar and so the coated string just takes the edge off the top. Plus they last for bloody ever!

BT717,
What kind of string did you use before (brand & gauge)? Did you have to make any adjustments to the guitar for the medium lights? How about the treble? What med lights did you use? I have the same guitar and am very interested in the changes.

Bob,
The guitar came with D'adario's Lights and the action was on the High end of medium. I took out 1 shim which got the action down to the very low end of medium ot High end of low. I have been using Elixir Nano lights on all my 6 strings for 6 years. So when I decided to try Elixir medium lights, I decided to try them on the 1778Lx. I did not have to adjust the Action. The Treble is the same as it was with the lighs as the first 3 string are the same as lights. It's the 4,5 & 6 string that are "heavier"

BT, since I'm not a fan of coateds (tried Elixirs and Cleartones - both felt too stiff for me), I may have to give the D'addario med-lights a try. I think, however, that they use a different low-e and high-e if I remember correctly. I just love the tone of that guitar no matter what's on it - but always looking for that elusive "improvement". I always seem to go back to Martin Marquis Phos Bronze lights as the gold standard. But... right now I'm loving Dean Markely Signature Series Custom Light Phos/Brnz on the '07C. They really sound great.

The Martins die fairly quickly. The Markley's sound just as good or better, and haven't died yet.

I did not like the DR Rare on the '07C.
