So, there has been some chatter on the internets about Red Brand strings. For $6 i thought i'd give them a try. Got them from Strings and Beyond, picked up a couple of sets of the lights: .012 - .054 i think.

I put them on my Stanford OM a couple of days ago and was not impressed the first day. But then i don't like the sound of fresh, out of the pack, D'Ad EJ16's either, and they are my go-to string set.

Well, a couple of days into these and i have to say, they are really nice. They have a very unique tone that is quite pleasing to my ear.

Anyway, i think they are worth the $6 risk if you're feeling adventurous. Perhaps some on-line retailer will start offering bulk discounts and bring the cost down a buck or two -- i'd be in for that.

I just read opinions from another guitar forum and they said they were quite expensive, so $6 is a bargain. They also said they seem to be a higher tension string, which can be a plus in some applications, but could be a little tough on the fingers. People seemed to like the sound, loud but warm, not as bright as phosphor bronze.
Thanks for the info.

Ah -- right you are. I just checked the invoice -- $10.95 a set. And i checked S&B just now and they are up to $12 a set.

Sorry about the mis-information. I know better than to rely on my memory these days!
