Hey folks...
1989 Custom Legend...
Damaged during shipping.
There are 2 small 1" cracks near the lower bout.
Another 5" crack on near the edge.
I currently have a claim in to UPS.
It was very well packed.
Something heavy had to have been laid
on top of it...it has an Ovation HSC.
I paid $500...that's what it was insured for.

Should I lose the claim....
Will the cracks get worse?
Does it affect the sound?

If I get awarded the $500...
They take the guitar, so I can't get it repaired.

But I do plan to get another Ovation.
Probably won't find another Custom Legend for that price.

Thinking about a Celebrity KOA.
They look great...
How's the sound & playabilty?

Thanks for your time!

Fight back with UPS and they will not take the item. I used the example that if they dented the fender of the car they had to pay for the fender but that didn't mean they owned the car. The customer service rep agreed and I got to keep the item (an amp that they damaged).

Are the cracks in the clear coat or all the way thru the Wood? Pic's would help. I'm not a Celeb fan so I can't answer your question other then saying there are a ton of USA made Ovations out there at great prices right know. Stick with a USA made O.

Don't have any pics...
Guitar is currently awaiting inspection
at the place where it was received.

The 2 small cracks were clear coat only...
The larger crack MAY have been through.
Not 100% sure...
I contacted UPS about keeping the guitar
for repairs...they said to let the inspector
know....they would make any final decisions.

Either way, the only way cracks can be repaired to be like new is to have a new top. That'll cost more than $500. I have an #1869 with a repaired crack that sounds great. I can live with the cosmetic flaw, as it cost me a lot less than a top replacement.

Good luck with UPS.
