I listened to my bandmates of the time who felt that we should not stop our lives because of events. I disagreed then and still do. Some events just demand that kind of attention and respect. I knew something had to happen fast with Capt. Phillips before they drifted to shore. The details of his rescue are still unclear, but I'm sure the Navy acted professionally and I could not be prouder. I hope the message has been received that if you mess with Americans, we're coming for you.

I don't regret playing then or the weeks that followed. In my view, it was just what the Dr. ordered. Music is a powerful healing force in good times and bad... especially the bad.

Let me just add Losov, pro or not, don't underestimate the power your music can have. You may be too humble to recognize it, but you have talents others don't have. Live music can transform in ways that are beyond us as individuals.

I felt like I was off in almost everything we played, and couldn't tell what was going on. Got more compliments after the service on how great the music was. Just because the musician feels off, people still get what they need to get from it. Never minimize that result....

You may be too humble to recognize it, but you have talents others don't have. Live music can transform in ways that are beyond us as individuals. True Story: One day when my freinds and I were finished playing our program at the Convalescent Home, the Head Nurse for the Alzheimer Ward asked if we could stop by and play for a man on her Ward. Sure thing. When we got to his room, he was in an almost fetal position and totally un-responsive. We started playing a long forgotten hymn with about 8 verses. Suddenly in verse 5, another voice joined us. We turned and saw this gentleman standing next to us and singing his heart out. He was singing all the verses by heart and wasn't looking at the book. When we finished the song, he walked back to the couch and returned to his fetal position .... totally unresponsive. There was something in that song, the music, the words.... I'm not sure, but SOMETHING touched him.....and touched us as well! Never, Never under estimate the power of music.

Looks like the pirates are very close to declaring war with the U.S. Yeah... good luck with that. At work last Friday morning I said to my co-workers... "We need to see the Navy Seals take care of this".

It seems like on some of the days we think are the worst, those are the days we get the most compliments after service. Hard to figuere that one out.

Understand, I am a science oriented guy. Not comfortable with extra physical pursuits. But I have seen music do some pretty miraculous things in peoples lives. And those of us who make music can't take credit for it. It's beyond us. And it's beyond levels of polish and professionalism.

Sounds kind of weird, I know, but we made that promise to each other the day we got divorced. (Then we went back to my place. I made us some lunch and then we played guitar all afternoon. Had to have been the most civilized divorce in history!)
