Finally! It took a week to receive the guitar and now another week to post about it! I wanted to put it on the Tak forum, but it's been down for a week.

This is a simply stunning instrument. It is unlike anything other guitar that I have - mostly Ovations. The fit and finish is spectacular - from the inlays to the binding to the rosette to my birthstone - the Sapphire. For strumming, it's got such a full, deep sound with the lows definitely standing out. All of the notes in the chords are crystal clear. The last Tak I owned was the NEX size. This is the first dread I've ever owned and the difference in the sound is amazing.

For fingerpicking - it took a bit of getting used to - as Dave said it would - because of the neck profile. It's thicker than the O's and with the wider nut width makes it easier on my fingers and hands to play more clearly.

I couldn't be happier!

Very nice Mike. Did you ever get a macro lens to help you with these types of photos? If so what did you get?

Beautiful photography, and an excellent subject. Dave said it best a while back . . . there may be better guitars for collecting, but these are hard to beat if you're a player.

These are AMAZING guitars. I took mine to the Collings factory tour. Stuck out like a sore thumb (at least it didn't have a plastic back) but it MORE than held it's own sonically.

Since getting mine I have had to retire quite a few other guitars that just could no longer measure up.

WELL DONE MIKE !!!

There were several of these on Ebay - all in the $28 to $3200 range. The one I was really lusting after was serial #9 - 9 is my favorite number (born 9/9), I was born in 1962 and the sapphire is my birthstone... just seemed like a natural fit (except for the price that is!).

This one was on ebay several times at anywhere from $2300 to $3200 and then the guy relisted it with no reserve. I put in a bid NEVER expecting to win it... but I did and well below the $2300.

It's brand new, from a store, with all of the case candy and the warranty intact.

I had to sell two guitars and a mandolin to be able to square it with SWMBO.

I'll throw this out there - if anyone ever snatches up #9... let's talk.

Anita - I believe that the strings are the ones that came from the factory - EXP16s. I will be changing them this weekend.

Phil - I have not gotten the macro lens yet. It's still on the list.

Congrats Mike.

I'm keeping my eye out for wood now after having the opportunity to play some fantastic guitars at Amelia.

In celebration of 45 years of dedication to the art and craft of guitar making, Takamine is proud to offer this eye-catching 45th anniversary commemorative guitar. This handcrafted instrument is an active showpiece displaying the highest level of the luthier’s art.
Built with impeccable craftsmanship and of the very finest tonewoods, this limited edition guitar is indeed the embodiment of the art and craft of guitar making. The 45th Anniversary model is a dreadnought cutaway with solid bearclaw spruce top and solid African rosewood back and sides bound in highly figured koa. The rosette features an abalone and wood Celtic Weaver design. The ebony bridge features abalone and MOP inlays while the ebony fretboard is delicately inlayed with snowflake crystals. Topping off this heirloom quality instrument is a peghead inlayed with a genuine Sapphire, the official jewel of a 45th anniversary. Takamine’s TLD line driver preamp provides the power behind the 45th’s acoustic prowess. Retail: $5500

My apologies but pics from someone's eBay. Wonderful maple binding, bearclaw spruce, abalone...

I own #11 and it is a killer.

For the last month or two I have seriously been thinking about selling mine since I also have a Collings CJ and a Bourgeois Vintage DC (all dreadnought size) but over the last 2 weeks I gave all 3 of them a real workout.

Each sounded different and each held it own. For the money the 45th is just a fabulous guitar and at least for the foreseeable future it is staying in the herd.

Well done Mike!

Mike,
After looking at those great pictures I don't know if a macro lens is necessary anymore. Put that money you were going to spend on the macro lens back in the guitar fund ;)
