Joined: November 2006 Posts: 3969 | Was SWMBO not telling the truth? She put me on a strict "NO NEW GUITARS IN 2009!" moratorium after I'd gotten the 08C, 1687RI and 1538 in the span of 7 months. So yesterday's a beautiful spring day, and I'm taking the family to a local state park for a bit of fun when SWMBO says, "Did you see that little sign that said 'Guitar Sale' next to the road?" She insists we turn back and check it out. Turns out some local guy, a contractor by trade and guitar collector, was selling off some of his guitars while his business is slow in the current economy. He had a couple of nice Guilds, Epiphones, and a Yamaha JR that sounded surprisingly nice for $40 & that I wound up buying for my son to learn on (he's almost 3): He also had a few electrics, including this one: It's a slightly modified Takamine GX-200, vintage '82-'83. They only made about 200 of them before giving up on their foray into the SB electric market. The body is a little beat up (it's relic'ed!), and as you can see it needs a TRC, but the neck & frets are in superb shape, the tuning machines are smooth as silk, & the pups (humbuckers) and pots all work w/o noise. Looks like the original bridge was replaced with a Floyd Rose. I had to get it since SWMBO told me to, and who am I to argue with the boss. I figured I couldn't go wrong for $120. I guess what SWMBO meant was that I couldn't buy any more guitars that I suggested ;)

Ya know, another way you can deal with the SWMBO issue is to recognize that they are usually pretty astute about the number of guitars but know little about prices. So often the "one in, one out" technique works well. I was about to sell a $300. Legend and "replace it" with a $3000. Adamas in what appeared to be routine "one in, one out".

Confuse them, throws 'em off. Then you got 'em. Oh yeah!!! Oops, sorry got a little nostalgic, what were we talking about.......... Anita
