Be fair ... Ovation doesn't do too bad a job either.

Ovation is up there along with Takamine but the Collings are just smoother looking....they just flow much more beautifully.

Most of the bursts on the O's are a bit more harsh...just meaning that the color changes are a bit more severe. The middle right in your above photo is a good example of one that doesn't follow the normal "O" burst while the others are perfect examples of what I was referring to with the "severe" color change.

Yup. The Ovation bursts are more "harsh" in that most of them fade to black on the outside. This looks really nice with abalone trim, such as on the Custom Legend top left.

Collings does three different bursts (unless you specify something different) depending on the side/back wood of the guitar. They do a different burst for Rosewood, Mahogany and Koa. The r/w burst is darker on the edge similar to Ovation. Mahog burst is a lighter (such as the C10 picture above) and the Koa normally gets a very yellow/orange burst (similar to the Hurricane photo). All are beautiful.

It's nice to lust after a guitar that looks good. Also nice to lust after one that sounds good. When you get BOTH in the same packagem that's something REALLY special.

Beal, isn't that a "non manly" neck...

TJ, the additional sound quality of a sunburst guitar almost offsets the loss of quality of a 1 11/16" nut. ;)

To have both a sunburst and a 1 3/4" nut is heavenly!

Actually I was a little confused, the nut on the C10 I just got is in fact 1-3/4. I asked the seller about that before I bid, but then I noticed that the ebay posting said 1-11/16. I checked with him again and he said again that this one has the optional deep body and 1-3/4 nut. The specs for the ebay posting were just pulled from the standard Collings web blurb. Either way I'll find out for sure in a few days. Dave

Well, I hope it is the 1 3/4 since I know that is your preferred nut width. Good luck!

The burst on the Custom Legend and the T-Head are standouts. I was always fond of Gibson's triburst and you can see a triburst scheme in the Custom Legend.
