Cheap labour ?

Yes, that's why I compared it to my cheapest celebrity - that's made in korea - also cheap labour - but all they managed was to glue a bit of plastic onto the soundhole.

It's not as though they inlay each individual piece of wood. You can buy inlay bandings of all sorts - here\'s just one of many sources . The factory that makes those gits contracts an inlay maker to do their particular style of rosette, and buys them by the thousands at a wholesale price. It's just a matter of having a set tooling to route a shallow groove (rabbet) to fit the inlay and glue it in, then sand it even with the top.

Rosettes are made using a number of long pieces laminated in tightly and then you "slice" off the pieces for indidivual rosettes.

As far as the Ovation Rosettes, they are around $150 new and $300 for the Abalone.

Washburn D32 - I bought this as a beater for the grandchildren to beat up on (I've had enough of digging toy cars out of the sound hole of my Country artist or retuning the MartinD28 12 string after they've 'tuned it' for me)

But I'm so impressed by the build quality of this Washburn that I think I'll have to go out and buy an even cheaper beater for them to beat up on. :)

Washburn has been making very nice "$cheap$" guitars for a long time.
