Ro, you might try a search on that topic. We discuss it ALL the time.

Start here:
D'Addario EJ16
Martin SP 4100
Dean Markley Alchemy GoldPhos
Elixir NanoWeb Light
These are all Phosphor Bronze
Also try some 80/20's like...
Dean Markley GoldBronze
Martin 140's
Check out Strings and Beyond for a good source of strings. |

Location: Ohio | I've out Martin Silk and Steel on mine and I like them for fingerpicking. Sound is softer than Phospher bronze. I DO usr the Nano Elixer son my Matrix 12 string and it just rings!!!!!

Location: UK | I've just strung my celebrity with D'Addario - EJ40 (Silk and Steel .011 - 047 Silver Wound)
I think my celebrity sounds a little 'dull' when playing higher up the neck. I put that down to the laminate top just not having the range of a pure tone-wood - but these strings really seems to help. I'm just a beginner so this difference must be huge otherwise I wouldn't notice. |

For example on my Adamas 1680 I used the factory installed 12s, then went to D'Addario EJ16 (11s), then Adamas 12s, then Elixir Nanowebs (12s). Never quite right. Now I'm using D'Addario EJ15s (10s) and it's PERFECT!
Now on my Ovations 2007 Collectors I had a similar fun time, but the Elixir Nanowebs 11s are PERFECT.
You've just got to find the right balance for your ear, your fingers, your playing style, guitars action, guitars tone (clarity, voicing, sustain, etc), guitars playability, etc, etc
Experiment and note down what you like / don't like about each, you'll find the "right" strings eventually, I think each guitar has it's sweet spot and finding the strings that bring it out is a worthwhile exercise. |
