Hey 1537 guys...
My original 1537 though a bit worse for wear in the cosmetic dept still plays true, and clean!

A few years ago I picked up another in a pawn shop for only a few bucks to use as my knock about but the electronics didn't work. I knew that going in. Now however, I would like to get it fixed. Where can I buy electronics to install myself (which I am capable of doing) and do you recommend going back original or upgrading?

The only upgrade is to the new redesigned two knobber electronics built for the reissues. Contact the factory....

Ovation upgraded the electronics when they did reissues of some of the Adamas two-knobbers. I'd order those from John or Kim. The posts might not fit the old knobs, so you might want to order new knobs, too.

Periodically someone was posting 2 knob electronics (new version) on ebay. Not sure what they were out of, but when I spoke with them, they were pretty certain that it was a direct replacement for my 1537 electronics. Didn't buy though....sold the guitar.

How about "the back door of the factory"?

You MAY want to consider sending the best of the two to the mothership for a makeover. Quite a few here can attest to the fact that they do a spectacular job. They usually upgrade the electronics in the process, and the two knobber will look original but sound and perform better. If you did that, you can take the electronics off the one you send in and put them on your other one. Regardless of what you choose to do, I'm sure you'ld be happy with their replacement electronics also. Good Luck! and let us know what you do.
