We hauled the trailer down to Big Pine Key Friday and were planning to head back home on Sunday. My 'bud' (Chuck, Puma co-owner) had to be in Atlanta Monday. Well, the Puma AC compressor wouldn't shut down. I volunteered to stay and await the part to complete the 'mission'. So Chuck, Jo (his bride) and Patty (my bride) went home. Due to TJ's comment of taking an Adamas out camping instead of a 'woodie', my sweet 1680 got to enjoy the environs of the Keys. What a joy 'she' was as I sat awaiting the fateful call of the part I needed. One of my fantasies is to have a Florida Keys OFC Jam. I know, it's too far for too many... but if it ever happened, it would be an unforgettable event! There is a pavilion that would be a fantastic genre. And the owner and employees are beyond terrific and supportive. OK, back to reality, the AC is fixed, I got two extra days in the Keys with my precious 1680. Just wish ya'll were there to share. BTW, only Alison, maybe Mark and a couple of others have the opportunity to view the cosmos as available in the Keys. It's totally AWESOME... How many of ya'll have seen the Milky Way that we're a part of...?

He was moving to California and I always wanted to do that. We pulled off the highway one night - I don't remember where - but it was many many miles from anywhere. The view was simply mind boggling - indescribable. I wanted to stay there all night. I grew up in NYC (Queens), so I can totally appreciate the difference in views. Count me in for a Keys gathering!

But the majority of our membership don't have the opportunity to enjoy the mind boggling experience to view the 'heavens'. I've been fortunate to view the Aurora Borealis several times, plus some beautiful meteorites ripping across the sky... Vic, I can feel your frustration. Scandinavia is one of the few regions that I haven't visited. Oslo and the Mermaid always were a 'siren' beckoning me... When much younger, I had a great desire to visit the 'blond territory'. We pulled off the side of the road at midnight, cut the lights, and looked up.....it was truly amazing. We could literally see satellites traverse the sky. 10 billion stars. I've seen lots of things in my 52 years, but I could have layed down and looked at that sky all night.

I remember him taking me into the backyard to watch one of the last passes overhead before it came down. It was quite surreal to be told to look at a particular part of the sky at a particular time and watch something appear there and transverse the sky, knowing exactly which piece of space junk it was. I got to touch a piece of the wreckage, but we weren't allowed to keep any of the samples.

My dream vacation was me, some supplies, my dive gear, a kayak, and ABSOLUTELEY NO CELL PHONE (ok, ok...back then cell phones were called pagers)!!!! Who knows, it's possible the last words anyone would have heard me say were "See ya in two weeks." as I paddled away from the pier. 'Course, I was single then. I've responsibilities now and such adventures are irresponsible I'm sure.

I can't see as many stars from the hot tub out back anymore. We haven't done much camping since we bought the cabin. You've got me feeling nastalgic, Iffy.

No bugs, no storms, constant tropical breeze, minimal 'neighbors'... Great time for tent camping for those so inclined. Our Puma has a queen bed in one end and four bunks in the other. Then there's the fold down couch which I normally claim if Patty isn't with me. So that's seven 'comfortably'... Besides most our time, any time of the year, is spend out side. The interior is mainly used for morning coffee brewing and sleeping. I could provide an in-shore and an off-shore boat for the sea farers. Bring your Academys for paddling and bailing... Seriously, it's one of the very few locations that I never tire of...

They advertise "wake up to the sound of lions roaring". What they don't tell you is that they start about 10:30 pm and carry on all night long. The Keys sounds good to me.

Joined: February 2005 Posts: 1132 Location: Parrish, FL	Try viewing the Milky Way when you're 500 miles offshore on the Atlantic ocean. You can almost reach out and grab each star as you count it. Simply amazing and humbling. We watched the Leniod meteor shower in the fall of 2002 while anchored off a small island off Antigua. Zero ambient light, lots of stars staying put, and over 325 tracing a path across the sky. No words to describe the experience. Blues
