I've never seen a sunburst like that from that era...

Very pretty. A nice, mellow sunburst.

Gosh, Bobbo, it must have been a lot of work to post that picture. Thanks for the effort!

In that era they obviously experimented with the sunburst look. This is # A-050 with a different appearance:

Karl, is that DB in the back our pre-spa guitar? I find that I'm playing my Legend (rebuilt with the same specs as your DB) most of the time if I don't need to plug in. One of the best wood top O's I own.

Looking at the 1968 literature, Ovation did offer a sunburst. Don't know why I was never aware of that. The first time I remember seeing a sunburst Ovation in a catalog was the 1972 catalog....

I would imagine that it is since I just noted that it's in the 1968 literature.....

No dufus. Just cuz it's in one year doesn't mean it's in the following year.

Making the big sacrifices for the good of the cause. It's what I do.

Just so everyone knows, I already called DIBS on that guitar if it ever comes available.

Paul, the three guitars in the picture above are owned by another German member on this board (If I remember right the one in the back is #B-336).

Here is another pic (thanks Samova!) with a sunburst top shiny bowl. This one looks similiar to the later sunbursts of the 70s. It inspired me to let spa rebuild my DB with a sunburst top.

It took me a few years, but I finally figured out that I need to quit expressing my envy for other's guitars on this forum. That has occasionally led to offers of similar guitars and when I accept those offers I get in trouble. I know I could turn down those offers and I have. I'll post pictures of the Patriot soon.

You know Mark, I'm finally in a spot where when I see somebody else's guitar that looks really cool, I ask myself the question, what does it offer that I don't already have? The answer is usually "nothing".

While you and I are a couple of hacks, we have great guitar collections. My lust factor has gone way down (at least for guitars) in the last few months.

Oh, and the Patriot is a great guitar. My favorite configuration --- A braced deep bowl Legend. Doesn't get much better than that....

Hey folks,I'm the guy who bought the 68 Balladeer.Just got lucky.
We who love the ovation are in a great position.
I have owned 5,The Ultra,a later crappy Ultra,
a 1312,a Legend,and a Elite 1778.And now this thing.
All were bought for a song by just keeping my eyes open and going to guitar stores once in awhile.
These kind of guitars are all over the big box guitar stores, and they don't like them.Good for us.
To be able to buy a used guitar with an ebony freetboard, high end tuners, proven electronics,
very solid tops for a couple of hundred bucks is a great investment.
Just be wise. Some Ovation's do suck.
