Joined: March 2006 Posts: 55 Location: Malvern, Pa. | Is there a technique to this ... should the strings be removed? Is there a Relative Humidity setting (50%?) that should be adhered to? How long does it take? I want to repair a crack in an old O I found, but the top looks very very dry. Any help would be appreciated.

Those cheap little dial-display analog hygrometers (like the Timex TX1012 - read the reviews) are essentially worthless, but these wireless units are highly accurate. I know this because I have a whole slew of these wireless systems from different manufacturers and have tested and calibrated them all with a lab quality wet-bulb hygrometer apparatus. DISCLAIMER: I have no connection to the hygrometer business except as a frequent product purchaser. There are good systems available from other manufacturers, but the Honeywell system is the most accurate, easiest to use, and is the most reasonably priced of any I've evaluated. Highly recommended!get a hygrometer for your case

Joined: April 2009 Posts: 39 | I forgot to mention: the sensors alone are harder to come by than the base units (which each include one remote sensor with the base). The sensors are also more expensive when sold alone (go figure), so I bought 3 base + remote systems. I use the base units at other locations to read the local temperature and humidity, but each one also picks up all three guitar case remotes as well. The base + remote packages can be had for less than Amazon's price, and since I'm not shilling for Amazon (or anyone else for that matter), I encourage you to search for the best deals yourselves (GIYF).
