You will never know how much effort went into shipping your guitars. I thought I might save a little on materials by building a box that could hold them both. (It seems like it should be more sturdy that way.) Anyway, I pulled some moving boxes from the basement that were 18X18X18. In 2 dimensions it was the perfect size to hold the guitars with their tops facing each other instead of one of the box sides. (I also put some corrugated cardboard in between them.) Then the Irish in me kicked into gear. I realized that if I stacked three together and layered the flaps, I would have a seriously strong, double-walled container suitable for a moon shot. What I didn't realize was that this monumental feat of construction would also require monumental (or just plain mental) amounts of packing tape to seal the seams. But it's on it's way....It's braced inside with 4X4X36 poster boxes to limit the movement of the instruments. Be aware that you will want to take the bubble wrap off the headstock end of the cases before you remove the guitars. For stability, I used it to secure the two guitars together. You'll see what I mean. Long story-short; what I saved in shipping, I think I spent in materials, but it's a seriously solid box! When you go to carry it inside, you may want to note the handles I cut in the side. The thing's bigger than a medium dorm fridge."

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | Sigh...For those unaware, Iffy won my auctions for both the 2000 Collector's and the '96 Collector's. I swear, all that box needed was some shingles and vinyl siding and you'd be proud to park you car in front of it. :rolleyes: |
