A small town a few miles from here, known mostly for it's antiques stores lining the picturesque main street, holds an annual street festival commemorating the filming of the early 90's Michael J. Fox film "Doc Hollywood" there. Long story short, I was invited to do a short set by the owner of a vintage instrument store there who put up a stage in front of his shop. Short set, 30 min and 5 songs, and a lot of great performers (folk, country and bluegrass) so I had a lot to live up to. No train wrecks, some actual applause, and no one yelled "Free Bird!", so other than the nervousness (took care of that with a couple of stiff shots a bit beforehand) I consider it a success. That was fun! I need to get out more - as someone we know and love says, "There are no problems that can't be fixed by 100 gigs."

The solo stuff is fun, I have always been hooked on a band that plays the old PRog stuff so I have been searching for those musicians and have found them again. But the solo stuff is the way to go. You play what you want. You only need about 1 hour and 45 min of material to do the small restaurants and happy hour gig's during the day or early evenings. and 2 hours is nothing once you get back into it. Not a lot of money but it is a very honorable hobby and you get great perks at the places you play once you become established in your area. Enjoy, and don't stop now........

Set list: New Orleans Waltz - Grayson Capps Willin' - Little Feat Pink Houses - John Mellencamp and ended with a medley of: Dope Smokin' Blues - Bryan Lee Before You Accuse Me - E. McDaniel (AKA Bo Didley) Played the 08C thru the house PA, brought along my Boss looper and layed down live loops for Willin' and New Orleans Waltz, and a pre-recorded 12-bar shuffle loop for the 2 blues numbers.

Serge, I'm proud of you, too. I could see at AI that you had everything it would take except the confidence. Looks like you found some of that. Sorry I wasn't there to hear it and cheer you on!
