I don't know if they actually make a contour bowl in anything but the deep bowl. The only diffence that is noticeable is the contour bowl allows the guitar to fit closer to your body.(which is nice for those of us who have growing abdomen syndrome, another GAS acronym) I think some Ovation players don't like them because they are "different". I have yet to see any evidence that the sound quality is diminished by the change in shape.

(a 2778LX would be contour) I have both a 1778T and a 2078T (which is the Sweetwater T). The 2078T has a fuller sound. But it also has more air volume than the mid-depth. A contour bowl may have more air volume than I deep bowl, but don't quote me on that... I've been wrong before!

The mid bowl has less bass but a more even overall balance. The deep bowl has more bass and less chime to the sound. I personally love the deep contour bowl sound. The fit is a bit unconventional. It feels more like a square wood guitar, but not completely. The mid bowl feels smaller and is a bit more comfortable to hold. But when standing up the mid bowl tends to roll up a bit. One trick is to learn not to squeeze your forearm against the top of the guitar when playing. Plugged in the difference in sound would not be so great. Perhaps no significant difference at all.
