I'm new here and joined to get an idea of the value of this guitar. My intention is to sell it. I purchased it new in 1978 and still have all the paperwork (including the warranty sheet) and HSC. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I've enjoyed reading the posts but am slightly disappointed at the overall resale value of Ovations. I thought it would be higher. I guess the "no respect" comment is justified.

My other guitar is a Gibson Dove which I bought new in 1971 after returning from Vietnam. I guess that dates me, huh.

Regards,
Bob

Welcome, Bob. Are you sure we can't talk you into keeping the 12? :) . Being that it's a lefty is both a blessing and a curse. You'll need to hold out for someone special, but when you find them, they'll be willing to pay a premium because it's a lefty. Be patient, it may take a while. As for value, I don't even want to venture a guess. My advice is to set a price you'd be happy with and wait however long it takes for the buyer to come along.

Bob,

It probably retailed for about $450 new? You probably have already gotten $450 worth of playing out of it. :) Ditto what stonebobbo said, just set your price and wait. You might have to relist it a few times on ebay to find the right buyer.

I paid $550.00 for mine shipped, but it had just had a new top, bowl and electronics added at the factory so it was essentialy a new guitar plus it was a shiny bowl which demands a bit more money around here anyway.

The older ovations seem to hold their value well it seems to me. They were relativly cheap compared to other high end guitars. The new ones seem to take a beating though.

Good luck with you sale.
