Location: Florida Central Gulf Coast | ... the 'dumps', where whatever you try musically, it just isn't fun or rewarding? I always enjoy learning something new, whether it be musically or whatever. But, geeez, the past few days has been a challenge.
 Sure could use a motivational OFC gathering... Nothing like meeting ol' friends and meeting new ones!
Guess it's time to take a break and go do some serious fishing... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Same page here, Iffy, except it's been more than a few days. I didn't play for about 3 days last week. My golf was improving, though. Then my golf went south again and I was bored with the same old songs. No one seems to be putting together a NW jam, but I just realized that I'll be getting together with the Colorado guys the end of this month. I better start practicing, so I don't embarass myself. |

Location: Vernon CT | Seems like I go through a "slump" like that every 6 or so months. Sometimes last a few days, other times weeks. Then, the clouds part, the sun shines and I can't keep up with everthing I want to play and learn! |

Location: PDX | Yeah, i do every once in a while. I'd say two to six times a year -- it varies.
I try to work through it by playing less and doing something in an open tuning i've never tried before or don't usually work in. It keeps the curiosity and challenge up.
Fishing would work too i suppose.

Location: Michigan | I was in about a 15 year "dump" where I hardly picked up a guitar. Following kids sports, events, other hobbies. It took a new guitar and discovering all music info on the net to get me back. I am not playing more than ever, better than ever (which is still not very good :) )
For me it helps to go back to a song I had given up on and force myself to learn it. When I finally get it I find I have the jumps to get'er going again. When I start to give up on songs is when I find my desire is also waning. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I find if I'm getting "stagnent" just schedule a restringing event. I keep a bento of every guitar, when it was strung and with what string. I just go to the oldest few and restring them plus of course clean them up. The act of restringing them makes me want to play with renewed vigor. Sort of like viagra for guitars. |

Or signing yourself up for a new gig where they request that you learn a new song that you've never played before. (Nothing like a deadline to get you working hard.) |

Your other four options would probably work. I also like Dave's re-string therapy theory. But for now, it's fishing.
