What if any is the difference in these? Is either solid top? i have a Celebrity U148 tenor uke, basically the same body with nylon stings. It differs from the applause tenor uke in that it has a solid koa top as opposed to a laminate, however I dont think it helps the sond any.

Applause and Celebrity mandos are both non-solid top. Do a search and you'll find a long write up I did about this. I went the whole circle - started out with an applause mando, upgraded to a celebrity and finally bit the bullet and got a USA mando.

The celebrity was the worst of the bunch by far. I paid $400 for it, ended up putting another $350 into it to try to get it playable and finally threw in the towel and cut my losses. If budget is a concern by all means get the applause. Mine was really nice. If you've got the money, of course the USA model is the best. But definately stay away from the celebrity. It's crap. All the details are in my previous post onthis topic.

I did a search and I cant seem to find your previous post. At this juncture Im more concerned about the neck and string action. Ive played the celebrity and the neck seems tiny and the action is lousy. Other than being nato, is the neck basically the same as on the MM68 model? I havent been able to play the MM68 to compare. Ususally my local GCs only have the celebrity.

Search the 04-05 vault for applause mando and there's about 20 threads about them. Soime good reading. Neck widths are the same on all three models. The neck profile, construction, attachment and adjustability is different on the USA model mando. A new celeb mando and a used USA model might be close enough in price to make it an interesting choice. The problem I had started as a neck issue, but escalated into a sinking top which no amount of neck adjustment, fretboard shaving and refretting could save. Dave
