I thought it was obvious, well looked like it is. Its at 100% & I was the 3rd voter.

Ebony 1st, Roswood 2nd
Why ?, Because I lke it. Don't care for maple on most electrics but thats just me.

Ebony.
Tough as steel, Hard as diamonds.
As close to being non-organic as any organic thing can be.

Of the six guitars I now own, (Geez... I never, ever thought I would someday own SIX guitars)...
anyway... of the six, 5 have ebony fretboards. Only the new VXT is rosewood.
I can't make out any difference in tone or sustain. If there is one, I bet it would take Spock's tricorder to measure it.
For me it's more of a mojo thing than a practical thing but it is an important feature.

Should have included maple. The one on my old Strat was my favorite neck.

Although, come to think of it, it wasn't because it was maple. It's because it was comfy.

No idea why but ebony is the only one for me.

Walnut seems to suck the very life force out of the tone of a note.

Never played on a Braz Rosewood fretboard, and probably would have selected maple had it been a choice.

A braz fretboard will have a smooth waxy feel and have an aroma like roses or chocolate etc versus the other boards. Not sure how it might effect the sound vs the other choices.

"I Can't tell the difference other than color..."

The Maple on my Viper looks Nice...
The Whatever-it-is on my Adamas looks Nice...
The Ebony my other things looks Nice...
The Rosewood on the Academy, the Balladeer and the Trekker looks nice...

It all works! :p

I have a custom electric with a Brazilian Rosewood deck and not only does it look fabulous but the strings really hold against it -- very stable.

But with it now being an endangered and a rare wood, i'll take ebony -- until that too is over harvested. After than -- maple. Love maple fretboads.

I chose ebony because it looks the best to my eye.

Truth be told, if you blindfolded me and handed me a guitar, I couldn't tell you what damn wood any part of it is made of.

Like the fretboard of my 1980 Kramer DMZ 2000 - if they didn't actually TELL me it's made of the same stuff as bowling balls, I wouldn't know.

I own 2 guitars: both O's and both with Ebony; however, I love the beauty of Rosewood more than I need Ebony.
