Some here have said that they are unfamiliar with his music. This is a beautiful intro to his acoustic playing, which is something else.

Just an intro, by the way...he's covered a WHOLE LOT of ground in his life!

I love this show, Alan. My FAVORITE period of JM's career. Give the O any day over the not-so-great electric tone (or the modern laptop cheese)!!!! I wish john would ditch the chorus, the synth and other processors.

BTW Jeff and I are working up an acoustic version of "Meeting of the Spirits"!

I agree completely! Such good stuff!

By the way, you are way, way up there too! I guess you already know that, but sometimes it isn't too bad to hear it again,eh?

I love the Guitars of Fire material! You are an absolutely wonderful guitarist!

Very much looking forward to hearing "Meeting of the Spirits!"

Thanks so much Alan (Wayne comes to mind: not worthy!). I am delighted that you like the tunes, though...

I think JM started out on a Balladeer (look inside "My Goal's Beyond": it has the signature bridge; all-acoutstic!!). By the Mahavishnu days JM switched to a Legend with electronics that he does not seem to have used much in the early days: Lotus and Thousand Island Park are not plugged in. Shakti was a detour on a fabulous custom axe but Friday Night marked a return! Then came the switch to Ovation Nyolon... go figure.

AlanM,

Thanks for posting the link. That's a great clip, and there are enough additional links there to other great JM material to introduce the uninitiated to more of his music.

Excellent!

Thanks again,
