It has some impedance matching resistors on it and a few other little bits. I don't think you can just add an XLR jack, you'll have to get the board with the jacks, and then install that. I believe that it is just plug-and-play as far as the preamp is concerned. The board has a ribbon cable with connector on it that you'll plug in to the preamp. I'd try customer service or Al about getting the part if you want to DIY.

Otherwise, there's little advantage to the XLR over a regular 1/4' guitar cable for a standard length connection. Also, you'll need a special XLR cable with pin 1 to shell (Ovation P/N 9658-0) if you want to power the pre-amp via the cable. If you really want to add it, as Pez said contact Mother, or if you're a DIYer call Al; he can get the parts (and the special XLR cable) for you.

Here are those details: http://www.ovationfanclub.com/cgi-bin/ubb/non-cgi/ultimatebb.php?ub... Parts easily obtained through Kim at Ovation service. Super nice and helpful, parts here in a couple days. Install was fussy but the pics show it's perfect and can be done. Another lister also did a perfect install herself a couple weeks back.

The last mod I did was to replace the entire op24+ with a Optima which came with the circut board with the 1/4 and XLR mounted together. This guitar has the OP pro with a separate input marked XLR on the preamp. I assume this is a separate cable that plugs into this input. I believe the OPpro could use both. I just want to add the XLR jack to the preamp as it now just has the 1/4 installed.

There is like a 4 pin jack on the oppro for this install. It would be much easier to install the XLR if it were on a separate cable rather than have to use a template for the circut board mounted 1/4 and XLR combined.

Yes, same circuit board, I believe it's the same jack on the OP-Pro as on the Optima (and Studio, and VIP, and OP-X). In fact, on my LongNeck with the OP-X the 1/4" is mounted on the PCB even though there's no XLR jack on it. The OP-Pro jack might be marked "XLR PCB".
