Location: Jet City | Well a 1667 is a Legend of course, the first one with a cutaway. Another one picked up on the drive to AZ.
I believe these were made for less than a year in 1982. The bowl was actually a full deep bowl. They didn't have a cutaway mold yet so they literally cut these away, then added a smaller piece to complete the cutaway (see pic). You can see evidence of this inside the soundhole, but it's seamless on the outside.
I don't know how many were made, but I believe they had the new molds up and running in a rather short time. They changed the model number with the new mold. I doubt there are many of these around, especially in black.
Oh yeah, my first -5 acoustic too!

Is that finish satin or a gloss with indirect lighting? If it's the former, me like a lot... |

Location: SoCal | A 1667 is a mid depth bowl Legend cutaway. Built around 82-83, and you're right, they didn't have a cutaway mold at that time. I used to have a 1983 Country Artist cutaway from that vintage with the same doctored bowl (it's in France now sipping red wine and not shaving it's arm pits). Neat guitars and a unique piece of Ovation history.... |
