For no other reason than it seems to be tradition, here's some pics of the 1997 Collector (wide nut).

I'm really warming to the 97c, it's quite unlike any other Ovation/Adamas and is likely to remain with it's friends for some time to come. I'm glad I bought a wide nut one.

Dweez, you take the most amazing photos. One thing I noticed though....the D & G strings at the neck seem to hit and rub the slot holes. Am I seeing that right, and won't that eventually cause a problem? Maybe all slots are like that, I don't know.

That's easy to do with Ovation slotheads, like the 08C. Part of the issue that I see in the pics above is that the problematic strings wind inward toward the center of the peghead. I make sure to wind them outward towards the buttons so they move progressively away from the center with increased winding (if that makes any sense).

and leave a little more string on there, so that a few more wraps bring the string outside. I usually cut mine too short, but noticed that there were several wraps on both the OFC and Lav Koa when they came from Al.

Absolutely correct! That's the way to do it.

Best regards,
Kurt

Finnaly! That's very nice Dweez! One of the guitars I would really like to have and hold on to.

I never knew those had wood binding. Very nice. Nice photography too. Did the sunburst one that Alison wound up with have wood binding?

They all had wood binding. Just like the 1537's...

When I bought my first Ovation (1868-4, natch), the shop had a 97 Collectors on consignment. The seller wanted $2k for it, IIRC, and was not willing to negotiate. It sure played nice, and I liked the size.

Great looking guitar, dweezil. I love the looks, especially with the markerless fretboard and natural binding.

It's one of the most eloquent blingless guitars I've ever seen!

Understated elegance. Everyone who comes into the shop is drawn to it like a magnet. When I tell them it's not for sale they are so disappointed.

First off it has to be said the 97c is a very addictive guitar. I find I just want to grab it and cuddle it ;)

I think the one I have is the one on the tribute site. Hohoho.

Anyhow mine has mini perloid buttons which whilst are OK I'm going to replace them with the original buttons which were ebony (gibber gibber gibber gibber!).

Now I reckon this 99c (serial 0424) MUST have passed through a few members here, so c'mon what's it's history people?

:)

Yepper... Couldn't have said it better myself! The '97C and 1680 are my 'go to' gits.

Just imagine what Dweez could do if he was let loose for a few weeks in a medieval city with a Mr Big shirt!

Wow, Dweez. As usual, great pics and beautiful instrument. Congrats to Alison on her new beauty, too!
