I've never owned a Gibson acoustic, but often heard good things about them, so I decided to jump when the offer presented itself. This one was purchased new by a guy in northern Fl. in July, and he wanted a smaller guitar, so I made a swap with him. I have been told Gibsons vary tremendously in tone within the same model line, but this one has made me a believer that they are indeed great guitars. VERY balanced across the spectrum and easy to play to boot, even for me.

That's slap dab traditionally gorgeous! Just enough bling to set it apart from others without over doing 'it'. Sweeeet...

Jim, what's that model?

It's a Gibby Songwriter deluxe. First rosewood guitar I've really liked the tone of. I'm a mahog kind of guy, and this one really surprised me.

Oh NO!! When that one comes up for sale I won't be able to help myself.

I know I will get lots of head-shaking comments on this, but have you noticed that all Gibson acoustics have a certain (beautiful) smell? The other day I was doing a repair on a Gibson Dove, and it smelled just like my old Heritage. I used to open the case and that smell would hit me and I swear it was the nicest smell in the world - better than home made bread. Then later that same night I went down to the Blue Bison where some friends were playing, and after the show the guy let me play his Montana Gold jumbo. It had the same smell. Maybe it's the glue or the finish. Or maybe I'm just crazy.

Naw, you're not at all...Martin Brz and even the newer Indian Rosewood guitars have a sweet rosewood smell to them...people used to think I was crazy when I'd invite them to smell my guitar interior ('69 D-28...the '48 has the same smell just not as strong)and the Brz. Taylor has the same sweet smell of Brz. RW...
In contrast, my old Adamas guitars have the smell of Epoxy and Smokey Bar's...not sweet at all but real...when they're played, it gets strong...I love it!

alison, wasn't that montana gold jumbo (J-200 i'm sure) a maple back and sides? not all of 'em are but most.

my chinese stanford (EIR back and sides) smells heavenly too.

It can't be the rosewood I'm smelling because that Montana gold has maple back and sides. And my Morgan Monroe's with solid rosewood don't smell like that. Whatever it is though, it's the best smell in the world.

I'll tell you what amazed me, when I got this one, the action was so low, I swore it would buzz. I played it, hard, and it didn't. I think it's about 2 32nds at the 12 fret. Very easy to play.

I just got a Madagasgar Rosewood Collings CJ. Now that smells really nice!

TJ, when you gonna get a real wood guitar??

Glad you're happy with that one, every so often they get it right.
