Joined: August 2006 Posts: 3145 Location: Marlton, NJ | I was doing a search online for the History of Ovation Guitars book and came across a few interesting tidbits (couldn't locate the book though!): From An Interview with Charles Frehley( Brother of Kiss' Ace Frehley): I have an Ovation guitar that I bought in 1968 that I still play and it's a deep body Ovation guitar. You know how all Ovation guitars have a plastic back, originally they had a smooth surface on them, and then sometime in the 70's they switched to a roughened surface. But my guitar is a deep bodied Ovation and it's like a classical styled guitar. It's called the Josh White model. From Wikipedia – about Tom Morello: He wanted a solid-body Ovation guitar, but he didn't have the money to buy one. Instead, he purchased a Kay guitar. From On The Road - October 2006 Kathleen Hudson: Freddy Powers, songwriter and guitarist most loved by Willie and Merle and an important chapter in my book on songwriters, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. His 75th birthday party, October 16 at Barton Creek Art Center/One World Theatre in Austin, will cost you $200 for a ticket and $75 for the reception and a live feed of the show. Willie Nelson, Janet Reno, and Big and Rich will be part of the event! All for a good cause! They have started a foundation to raise money for research and awareness. Catherine, his devoted wife, wrote the invitation, reminding us that the live auction will consist of a dinner catered in your home with entertainment by Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel, a hotdog roast on the Booth Ranch with Sonny Throckmorton, and a replica of the original Ovation guitar made especially for Freddy. From Women’s History Gallery Guide to EMP (Experience Music Project) Nancy Wilson and Joan Armatrading - 1999.706.1 Pictured with Ovation Acoustic-Electric Ovation produces good acoustic sound through an amp, stays in tune and no feedback. Allows acoustic sound to come out and remain focus of song. MEG 91, 69 Wilson and Armatrading are both well known for their guitar playing skills, defying the expectations of mainstream society, which has often assigned the role of guitar player to male band members. Instruments with a softer, quieter, more “feminine” sound have typically been assigned to women while the loud, aggressive sound was considered more masculine. Wilson and Armatrading developed aggressive guitar-playing styles with the acousticelectric and crossed over the gender boundaries of music. Armatrading’s father hid his guitar from her so that she wouldn’t be encouraged to pursue her musical dreams, while Nancy Wilson has often been compared to Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. | ||
