Joined: June 2009 Posts: 67 Location: Texas | Can someone tell me how to adjust the neck on my 12 string ? string height was high,so I restrung it and removed the shims, but the stings still seem high seems like I read somewhere they should be no more than a 1/32nd at the fifth fret while depressing the low E string at the nut and 13th fret ? I dont have anything to do 32nd measurements with but the strings are high compared to my other Ovations,I want it as low as I can get it without fret buzz of course.............thanks and good luck

If you have a Truss-Rod Cover, it is accessed under there. Otherwise, through the sound-hole. Adjusting the truss-rod is only for adjusting the 'relief' along the middle of the fretboard. If you capo the first fret, then finger at the 13th fret, that should give you a good idea. Yeah, there should not be more than 1/32" clearance around the fifth fret. Figure that you should be able to pluck the string in between the 1st and 13th fret and have enough clearance for it to ring. But you should not be able to put a dime in there. I have never actually measured mine... The string should be able to move, but you shouldn't have a whole lot of clearance. Hope that helps. [somebody correct me if I am wrong]

Im thinking I can just loosen the strings, tighten a 1/4 turn, let set overnite, retighten strings to get another measurement in the morning and retighten another 1/4 turn if the string height is still too high ? good luck

Normally .010" on a 12 string 1/32" (.031") is way too much Ideally the neck should be adjusted before removing shims Also check the string height at the nut AJ
