The preamp isn't working on my Celebrity. It's a 90's model. Any advise? Anyone in Connecticut able to fix it?
Thanks.

Welcome! I prefer to sit also, even with a contour bowl. :p

I cannot answer your question without more information.
What model preamp?
What model guitar?
When did it stop working?
Have you checked the battery? (Is it in correctly)
Have you checked the plug-ins in the back of the preamp 'can'?

A little more detail would help.

I've tried a couple of fully-charged batteries. I'm not sure what "model" the preamp is. There's no tuner. It hasn't been working for over a year.
What are the "plug-ins"? There doesn't seem to be an easy to access the preamp. I don't want to try to take it out, since I don't know what I'm doing.
Thanks.

What model is the guitar? (I should be on a sticker inside the bowl)
Center-hole or Epaulets? Is there an access-hole on the back?

Are there any wires flopping around inside?
If you look in the center-hole, or the hatch, on the back of the pre-amp 'can' there will be two 1/8" plug-ins.
One goes to the undersaddle pickup, one goes to the 1/4" jack.
These should be secure.

After that, I'm lost...

If your battery-box is separate from the preamp, there will also be a wire or two coming from the battery box to the preamp. These should be secure also.

Sitting, where in Ct. are you? There are members living there who could probably get together with you and take a look. Then you could jam. Then you could also try other Ovations and get GAS. Then you could meet Trader Jim. Then, if you have any money at all (or even if you don't) you will start spending it like a...well, like Willa!

There are no wires that I can see that aren't connected. It has a center-hole. I've reached in there and checked the wires. They seem to be attached.
I have another Ovation with the "epaulets". I didn't know those little holes had a name. That one works great.
I live in Prospect.
If anyone is interested, there's a bluegrass jam in Bethany this Friday night: BMAD (Bethany Music And Dance).
Thanks again.

I'd rather buy a pickup that fits in the soundhole than spend a lot of money fixing it. I can use the pickup for other guitars.

Now would be a good time to upgrade the pre-amp. iDea maybe? OP-Pro or Studio perhaps? Call Al, see what he's got lying around.

Who's Al? How do I get the preamp out? I'd upgrade it, if possible. I really appreciate having a built-in tuner, like the other O.

(I have a Santa Cruz mtn bike)

Thanks for the replies.

Welcome SittingO! I'm one of those Nutmegers CaterburyStrings was talking about.I'm up in Vernon. You also have AlanM in Newington and PEZ in W.Hartford. Anyway, Al is Alpep on the site. The #1 Adamas dealer in the Country and one of The OFC's 2 "founders" It would REALLY be worth fixing your 'O' as oppossed to the Soundhole P/U. But I,as We all understand, times are tough.

Thanks a lot. Sorry I'm not more connected to the Ovation world. I'm glad there's a website. I've had 3 of them. They're my favorite guitars. I made the mistake of letting my brother in law take one to college. The one that doesn't work is an 1887 Legend. I put my hand in there last night and couldn't feel any loose wires. I don't want to screw it up myself and don't mind spending some bucks to have it done right. I guess I'll contact Al. Does he have a website?
Thanks again, glad I found this blog site.

Thanks, but this guy is over 3-hours from here. Does anyone have the link for either AlanM in Newington or PEZ in W.Hartford?

Does anyone know anything about the early student Ovations? Were they made here?

Find a post of theirs on any thread and click on their name. The reason you were given Al's name is he is our resident "Guitar store". I think you were given his name to "buy" a new EQ/preamp.
