Hijacked thread on the AGF

But definitely not "high art" in the way he was using the term. None of us (with a few exception$) would be playing them if they were. What you have there is an old guy with time-honored prejudices about staining wood ... if you want to rile things up, post up about how Taylor does their bridge staining perfectly, let the old guy respond, and then sit back and watch the fireworks show.

Maybe I'm just getting lazy, but seems years ago I would take up the challange and dutifully march into cyber battle to defend the Ovation name against all those who desire to bring her down. But these days the long winded point-counterpoint exchanges of one-ups-man-ship with nameless, faceless dip-shits on the other end of the computer line are just as satisfying with a simple response of "Whatever" CLICK

Part of being fanatical about anything is that you naturally adopt a negative stance towards the alternative product or point of view. For example, there is no such thing as a NY YANKEES fan who has a neutral opinion of the RED SOX. If you love the Yankees, by default you hate the Red Sox. That's the way it is. The AGF is the old TAYLOR forum. Before Taylor shut down the use of the name in the wake of such tremendous negative comments about the Expression System preamp (which sucks more than the Red Sox). Taylor homos on the AGF are SUPPOSED to hate Ovations. That's their JOB. So let's give them credit for doing a good job it it. Here, here. I see nothing wrong with bashing Ovations on the AGF. It's good sport, just like bashing Taylors over here, bashing Chevys on the Ford forum, Les Pauls on the Strat forum, etc. Afterall, it's only entertainment no actual animals get damaged in the process.

He probably doesn't like Martins because old CF used to make cabinets. Just let it go. But if the Ovation works for you as it does me, that is, in fact, the end of the story.

Frankly, I don't know that I'd want to pay a bunch of money for a guitar built by someone that never did anything else before building guitars. On another thread he says he only uses ivory from elephants from a certain region for saddles because it sounds better. I don't care how good they are, I don't think you can make a flamenco guitar that sounds good.

His tastes may differ from ours but that's his flavour. And bless the world for having the variety it does, at lest we can all sing together over a pint at the local. or ice cream at the parlour, whatever.
