HI

I need some help in deciding what Adamas 6 string to buy. I was thinking about purchasing a new Adamas II 1781 S5 re-issue from a retailer on ebay. Does anybody out there know what this guitar is like for sound and playability compared to the older Adamas II models? I need some sound coaching on what to do!!

Thanks

Welcome. I haven't played this particular model reissue, but in general the RI's compare very favorably to the originals.

Before committing to buy, you owe it to yourself to contact Al Pepiak, a co-founder of this board, and the #1 Adamas dealer in N. America. I doubt anyone will beat his selection or price.

Or call him, he never closes. His phone number is on his website . Best of luck, and keep us posted.

Had a 1781, didn't like the neck/bowl, sold it.
Had a 1681, didn't like the neck, sold it.

I had a 1881 that I liked but I sold that too. Looking for another one now :(

I'm after an Adamas that has that kinda "ZING" to it when plugged in, (very hard to describe but I trust my ears), the 1881 I had came closest to it. Basically I like the sound Adrian Legg got out of his Adamas and there's tone in there I want to try and recreate.

It's so subjective, it depend what you like spec wise and tone wise, the only answer is to try them all!

I realize that what I a asking is subjective and you really need to try as many of the guitars as possible but that is not an option to me. I live in an area where the nearest music retail is about 5 hrs drive and they do not carry the ovation or adamas line. Ovation is not new to me, I have a older 81 USA legend, 80 pacemaker, 81 12 str balladeer and 90 Ultra and have played them for many years - but would now like to have a decent Adamas. My problem now is trying to decide whether to buy a new one or an older model Adamas II. My son has an older Adamas II 12 string and it plays and sounds wonderful. I can purchase the new RI 1781 Adamas II for about 1299 plus shipping US. Should I wait and buy an older model or would buying the new one satisfy what I am looking for?
