I love the deep contour bowl, and the neck is really good compared to most of the necks made in Asia. I think mine sounds really great ... not too far off from the top of the line Ovations. You got a good one!

The 2171 fits in there fine, too. I've heard good things about the zero gravity case, but never used or seen one. You ought to call alpep at LostArtVintage or email him ... he's an expert and can get you what you need. alpep@aol.com.

Ovation (and it's subcontractors) use the same case for a deep, mid, and contour bowls. (Official designations, 9158 & 8158) And Allison (CS), that deal with your brown case doesn't surprise me. I had an 1121 and a 1621 (with original brown cases)... Same guitar right? The 1621 would not fit in the 1121's case! (and it wasn't just cuz of the volume knob) But the 1121 fit just fine in the 1621's case. Plus my 1115 was a really snug fit into a 1112 Balladeer case. But the Balladeer just dropped in there with room to spare. Go figger!

Back when I was working there, we would sometimes get to work on older, kind of defective guitars that had been stashed away to be worked on "later". They were kept in cases, and it seemed that they all smelled bad and whatever caused the smell (the glue that held the lining in, I suspect) made the strings corrode. I think it was the "rotting" strings that gave off the smell because the cases, when left empty, never smelled at all. I'm a little worried about my 1617. I have gotten so many new O's lately that I had to put some of them in their cases. (My living room isn't big enough for a dozen guitars on stands.) Well, I put the old Legend in it's brown case a couple of days ago. I'm going to give it a couple of weeks and see how it fares. OK boys, let the foul smelling jokes begin! :D
