I've had a ToneRite on my Legend for the last 2 1/2 days. It will come off later today, but I've pulled it and played the guitar several times. It feels like the guitar is louder and has more bass than it did. I wish there were some way to actually measure the difference.

The next guitar I'm going to match it to is the GC reissue, a guitar with a sweet tone but not much volume.....

I just pulled it off my Larrivee parlor that doesn't get much playing time. It sounds louder and fuller to me.

There is, but it's kinda late for that now...

Do you use the tonerite once, then it's done it's job, or do you keep applying it?

From the little I've read I guess it's designed for newish guitars to help 'break them in'?

Muzza - correct on your latter question. There's also the observation that a guitar that's broken in can become stiff again and lose some of it's volume and tone if not played regularly. Supposedly, application of the device will bring such a guitar back up to its opened up potential more quickly.

On the former question, the maker recommends an initial treatment at full power for 72 hr, then periodic (once a month or so) 24-hr treatment at a lower power.

G8r, Muzza... I have bought old beater guitars that came to me stiff and dusty, then opened-up Again after I cleaned-em-up and played them for a coupla hours.

So... Yeah!

I brought one home for the SSSJ and put it on my Tak. It's been on for two days now, so one more to go.

The guitar is hanging on my wall here in the office and I swear I can feel the vibrations over here in my chair. I don't notice it at first when I sit down - but after about 15 minutes, I start to feel the vibration in my head... it's difficult to explain... and it's not like I can physically feel the motion, it's almost like an inner ear thing... bordering on uncomfortable. I hope the guitar feels better! I have to get up and leave the office every once in awhile.

Anyone else experience this?

BTW - Thanks Serge!

No....but then all my guitars and the tonerite are in the home studio area so I really don't deal with it in a relatively quite environment like an office.

Maybe move the TR a bit to a new location on the guitar.

That was gonna be my suggestion. I've had it on 3 guitars now, and it's been about as noisy as a good aquarium air pump, that is, not very noisy at all. At one point it started getting louder and "buzzier" and when I checked it it wasn't snug against the bridge and had slipped up from the strings ever so slightly.

Reached over and turned up the volume on the amp last night, then raised the EQ up slightly on the guitar. Man, I could sure swear it sounds louder and fuller than before.

ToneRite evaluation suggestion:

Ovation 'tight' wood top with an iDea and a ToneRite-

iDea record the git pre-TR
TR git for recommended time
iDea record the git post-TR

This would allow for minimal variances. Plus the recorded waveforms could be compared/analyzed via the numerous programs available.

Variables-
temp/humidity
players string 'attack'/technique
string 'aging', should be minimal if not new

Any other thoughts/suggestions?

All the time...and I don't own a ToneRite. I think it is age.

Quality of the sound through the iDea mp3 recording would not be representative of any actual sound changes.

Is the built-in condenser mike unidirectional for vocals only? Or would the peizo output 'bury' the mike?

I've had it on the Martin CEO for 3 days now, and I can notice a difference in the sustain. I'm trying it now on the new 00-18VS and will see if it seems to open up any. I do notice the smell of the woods seem to permeate the room while the tonerite is on the guitar. I had noticed before that while playing an all wood guitar, the smell of the wood seems to strengthen. This thing makes the room smell wonderful. That alone is worth the price of admission.

I wish I still had a sense of smell that was worth a damn. Got to be really strong for me to get a whiff of whatever.....

was probably a blessing hanging around certain people at AI2 (insert roto-rooter pic here).

I haven't noticed any smell yet... then again, I've been congested going on a week now. Like Stephen - it's probably a blessing as I've had to spend some quality time on airplanes this week.
