Hi! I have an early 1980's era Korean Celebrity most likely a CC57. It has the old piezo pickup system (no preamp) with 1 volume and 1 tone knob. I would appreciate it if anyone could share thier suggestions for an external preamp I can pick up for live performances. Normally I use an acoustic amp for small venues - but more recently I'm playing "plugged in" at larger venues with non-acoustic sound systems. Some sound engineers have had no problem rigging for sound - other's were mystified!

Thanks! - Jay

BOSS AD-3 or AD-5 ... regardless of what kind of pickup / preamp on your guitar; this is the best ones out there for me personally. It allows you to tweak the exact kind of sound you want before going to the board, so you don't have to rely upon the sound man for your tone. Additionally, it has basic feedback control .. it helps if you are playing with a full band with electric bass.

I use an L R Baggs Para-DI with good results.

You can't go wrong with a Boss unit though.

I just got Serge Lara's Baggs Para Acoustic DI and I'm very impressed (and happy) with it. Really lets you dial in the perfect tone, and great at busting feedback without sacrificing any range.

We sometimes use the line-out from the back of the acoustic amp. The amp becomes the eq, effects, and stage monitor.

I'm really tempted by the Fishman Aura DI....little pricey, but has features the others don't, like compression and blend. Then again, I would be using it primarily for recording

Fishman products are among the better ones out there, as reflected in the price.

So dbg, are you planning on mic'ing your amp after running the guitar thru the DI then into the amp, or running the DI output to an XLR in of a multitrack recorder?

No, probably running the guitar into the DI then straght into the laptop. Or maybe into the R-16 if I end up with that.

Into the R-16 would be fine, but to get from the DI to your laptop you'd need some type of XLR-to-USB interface along the lines of an M-Audio Fast-Track .
