Joined: September 2009 Posts: 180 Location: michigan | Happen to catch this guitar just as it got listed. I haven't seen a natural one before. Looks to be a 3 piece top like my balladeer reissue. That was my excuse for buying it. I remember playing one of these at guitar center last year. Went to the vault (quiet room). Please share the love for the VXT until this one gets here. Going to try and post a picture. I am Still wanting to get a 2080, but I couldn't let this one pass me by. And just when I thought all I needed was "just one more". Oh well.

BEALE, thanks for letting me know there are a few Naturals out there. I was hoping that was the case. I had never seen one. I'm looking forward to getting it sometime next week. Have a gig coming up November 14th and will likely use it. I usually use a strat and a Heritage H150 (les paul standard), but it is getting too heavy. Wanted to use this in its place (plus I can sneak in some acoustic sounds). I loved the neck on the VXT I had tried. It is an added bonus

Dollar for dollar you got a lot of guitar. Congrats. If I stumbled upon one for that price I'd have to risk the fight with the wife. But it would be worth it.

There's quite a fan base for the Hamer Duotone that keeps the prices up for the older ones, but I suspect the VXT is as good or better and is a better bargain. Someday, if Moody can justify owning one, maybe I'll learn enough to justify owning one.

Outside of the unique electronics package, workmanship on the VXT comes very close to the custom models coming out of the Hamer shop.

It looks like a lot of handcraftsmanship goes into each instrument.. Are these built by Ovation / Hamer custom shop. Are they one in the same. Not that it would make a difference. I have a lot of respect for Hamer. Just curious mostly. I have been to the Heritiage factory (original Gibson factory) in Kalamazoo several times. Had a guitar built, met the guys that built those million dollar les pauls. Quite a treat. Hopefully our mothership will get back to Ovations once they crank out a few Guilds.

It is made by staff within the Ovation shop. Nonetheless, the good folks at Hamer have obviously influenced the build process used for the VXT. An obvious example is the neck joint.
