Anyone who has gone to a Matt's Chop Shop has seen him take one of the guitar store's guitars, add a higher guage low E string and put an adapter over the nut...then amazing slide (dobro style). Doesn't harm the guitar at all.

Tony, I think you sent me the one I have.

I have played around with it many times. Very cool to own one.

Yep, thought I would try to find it again as I have a Custom Legend with a broken nut and low frets...so, easiest solution - raise the strings  :D

The adapter sits on top of the nut raising the strings to allow the guitar to be played as a slide.

Bigger string, believe it is a .76 or a .78

As for my use, just putting on mediums will give me the ability to sound like a lousy beginning violin player annoying the neighbors.

And who is Gregg?

Strictly speaking, this is an adapter for lap-style playing. You don't need the nut to be raised as much as this for regular bottleneck-style upright slide. A couple of mm at the most will do, some slide players don't even bother raising at the nut.

When I first started trying to learn, I just put resophonic strings on an old acoustic. That raised the action enough at the saddle, and I could play Spanish style. Since it was tuned slack, open G or D, the heavy strings were not a problem.

OK, next time I try to make a joke I'll fill my post with smileys. That way if it doesn't go over everyone will know I was kidding. Or maybe I should give up on my comedy career. :) :) :) :) :)

Ah yes , Lt.Col.
When ye said " dobro " I thought ye meant a cherished member who goes by the name - Dobro - ( Gregg ), who is a Virtuoso on the Git. , but now I understand that ya meant the dobro-guitar .
Sorry about the confusion.

Numb, it wouldn't be decent sarcasm if everyone got it. Sarcasm usually doesn't play well in writing, though. I try, but no one understands me.
