- where can I get the soundhold plugs for my Elites?
- I have several gits with the OP-PRO. Is the OP-50 interchangeable with it? (ie can you just pop out the OP-PRO and stick in the OP-50?) |

I've never had an OP50, so I'm not sure about that. But I seem to remember something about the 40's and 50's being swappable with the Pro. |

Location: Miami | Thanks, guys. Just ordered the air locks. Just waiting on a definitive answer to the OP-50 question before ordering one.
And while we're at it, same question for the VIP preamp.
Are the OP-PRO, OP-50, and VIP preamp interchangeable? (Definitive answers only please!) |

Location: SW Washington | I am interested in the answer(s) too. By the way, what are the differences between the OP-Pro, OP-50, and the VIP? My LX has the OP-PRO and I am pretty happy with it. So I am curious why you want to go to an OP-50? Is it just for certain applications or something? Just wondering.

Location: Utah | The connector for the OpPro series, including VIP, Studio, and iDea, has 8 copper tabs. They are in two rows of 4, opposite each other. This can be seen on the underside of the preamp by pulliing it out and flipping it over. We have swapped around all of these preamps in our guitars and they work normally.
The Op30 has 7 copper tabs, staggered. My daughter's Op30 will physically fit in the other cans, but I have not tried to power it on. It appears the the copper tabs will short out across the connectors if they are put in the wrong style can.
If the OP50 has 8 tabs that are symetrical, it will drop right into the OpPro series cans and I would expect it to function normally. If it has the 7 tab connector I wouldn't try it. |

The VIP has the digital emulations of various mics. I found that I did not like the effect on many of my guitars, but in the Adamas it is stellar. The Studio has a compressor and harmonic excitor in it, and it sound great in the wood topped O's. If you were to want a new preamp for live performance I would support the OpPro Studio as a choice, but it is an improvement that would be lost on most of your audience. The iDea is probably the most fun and would get the most use by the typical guitarist.
My advice would be to stick with your OpPro as far as quality of sound is concerned. Get an iDea if you want a fun gizmo for your practice and learning. |

David The OP-50 has a notch filter and 4 EQ bands to play with, not just 2. Of course, more important than the EQ is the tone, so if the overall tone sounds better on one preamp over the other for that particular guitar, that preamp wins. |
