Anybody playing one of these on a regular basis? It's on my wish list... I like the idea as I play acoustic guitar (Takamine Nahsville) on some songs and electric guitar (Hamer Monaco Elite) on some songs. It would streamline things a little for setting up, switching instruments, etc. Anything new abut VXTs since they were first offered?

Electric sound - Carvin gives more flexibility and it has more to offer. Neck is better in VXT (in my opinion - more comfortable) but i totally hate look of VXT, i haven't seen those new "burst" VXT's but black - in my opinion - looked cheap. And... if you want to use guitar with Fishman piezo bridge, it's almost necessary to have a equalizer. You can get a decent sound out of it, but probably you won't get it right away. Playing plugged in to two amps is a great fun!

ProfessorBB had a really nice one made with (I think) a Koa top and he plays it enough to give a good report. There's probably a thread or two about it ... try this one here . I saw Beal's which is a natural finish and it was real nice but I didn't plug it in. Matt Smith did tho' at his show and yeah, it can make some really nice sound in competent hands. I guess the newest info is that Ovation is making them with different tops and finishes now. Al can talk you through the options ... ProfBB ordered his through Al. Personally, I really like the look, shape and feel of them.

According to Al, mine was the first custom-ordered VXT out of the factory. It has a koa top and the back is finished in natural, plus the neck and body are bound with Hamer's layered aged Italian ivoroid binding. I also exchanged the black pickup surrounds and controls with chrome, and switched out the tuner buttons with some of Paul's ivoroids. ![]()

Just use an Ovation or Adamas, and run it through and electric pedal. Tried it and was more impressed with the electric sounds on my 2080, than I have been the acoustic sounds on my Carvin DC400. Must say, however that the action is better on the Carvin, but I am just a rythym player anyway.

I got good sound out of my Carvin, i can record something and post it here. But i use 10-way EQ and compressor + chorus for "sweeter" sound. It's good for stage when i have to strum few things in song or sth. like this, but i wouldn't play whole song on my Carvin. I'd rather take time and take my O or Furch from stand.

I've watched them languish, unloved and slowly getting dinged, strings crudded up and batteries run down. They've dropped the price and I negotiated a great deal. I played a lot of other guitars there and there is nothing close to this build quaility at anywhere near the price. It is a real pleasure to play, even unplugged. I play mostly electric, and I have several Brian Moores with piezo outputs (I mostly use them for their 13 pin outputs). The "acoustic" output of this (via the Fishman/VIP combo) is very good. YOu need to hear it direct into a board to appreciate just how nice it sounds. Anything new abut VXTs since they were first offered? New fancier tops and cheaper paint jobs. Per the VXT site: Deluxe VXT models featuring new exotic Flame Maple tops will also be added to the 2008 line up. Deluxe VXTs will be available in 59 Burst and Brown Sugar Flame finishes. Retail: $2699 Ovation will also be introducing a lower priced VXT in two new finish options. The VXT Standard is based on Ovation’s popular Elite T guitar and features a maple neck, one-piece poplar body, textured body finishes, Seymour Duncan P90 pickups, and, like the original VXT, VIP microphone imaging technology that controls the acoustic output. Available in Black and Titanium Silver finishes. Retail: $2199 With these changes and likley lack of support from GC, now might be the time to grab one. I think Al Pep may stil have a smaple at a good price too!!!
