I have expanded my ovation horizons since joining this forum. No longer do I immediately turn away if the bowl isn't shiny or a trc not apparent.

But that has posed a question. Why did the trc disappear? OK, I know the simple answer; there is a different type of neck reinforcement in newer ovations. But my question is, why was the change made?

And beyond that:
Was the change made across the board in a single model year?
Is there a listing that matches model to neck reinforcement? The specs on the ovation web site and other "galleries" seem to not give this info. And yes, I've done a search but have found no comprehensive listing.

So, I'm looking for a simple lesson on neck reinforcement. Any teachers out there?

Kaman bar (K-bar) is much strong than a standard truss rod, and it's adjusted in the body at the base of the neck, not on the headstock.

Ovation went away from the k-bar (very heavy) when it went to it's new neck bracing/adjustment system in, what, 2005?

I think it was 2004. One of the reasons that the 2004 Collector never went to production, they were very busy working up the whole LX thing. I think the chronology was ...

2003 - inlaid epaulets
2004 - LX neck
2005 - Contour bowl

Sounds about right.

And because Ovation didn't offer a Collector's in 2004, some people had the opportunity to buy one of the best wood top Ovations ever built, the 30th Custom Legend.....

I guess that explans why I have always noticed how heavy my L778 is. And all the weight is at the neck. I have noticed this many many times and wondered why the nec is so heavy.
