I still work at the very plant which produces all the coatings for Ovation guitars.

We had a couple of new technologies that launched recently for glass bottle printing inks.

One of the quality tests required is melt viscosity. I had a few samples that needed to be tested, and our technician was sick yesterday, so I offered to come down to the lab and take care of them.

1st result = 1718

Of course I thought of the Elite non cutaways of the past.

2nd result = 1767

wow, this is pretty funny. A nice deep bowl cutaway legend. I thought about the nice white one I bought from Paul B.

3rd result = 1758

This is crazy. 3 tests and 3 Ovations that rank at the top of my personal favorites.

Well, I have one more sample to run. A new temporary lab technician from one of the other groups happened to be passing by. I ask him to run this sample. He's never run the test. It's pretty simple, just put a little ink on the heated plate, pull the lever down until the cone contacts the ink, wait for the temp to stabilze, and press RUN.

He has no idea why I want him to run the test, of course.

He reluctantly puts the ink on the plate.

This instrument is a Brookfield Melt Viscometer. If the user happens to put too little or too much ink on the plate, your reading won't be accurate, and to help identify this, the instrument blinks the unit of measure on the display to tell you to re-run the sample.

what was his result?

1988-P  The blinking P for Poise. (of course I was thinking Platinum or Pewter).

I left work early, never reported any of the results, and spent the evening pulling out some old O's in my collection that haven't been played in a while.

Does anyone have a nice 88 collectors for sale?

Now that is a hoot! I'd definitely take that as a sign...

Right here, Ernie. Unless it's been sold.

Psycho beat me to it.

Cool/weird story though.

Imagine if you will, a man.
A man at work on, for the moment, a day like any other day.
However went it's over this will be a most unique day because for Erniewan, his number has just come up.
In the Twilight Zone.
