I'm gonna' start doing a dedicated acoustic gig on a regular basis and had a chance to pick up an Elite 1778 LX for around $600. The guitar is in mint condition, not very old, with little playing time on it. I have not yet received it, but, just want to see if other Ovation users think I overpaid. I assume it's a substantial upgrade and, like I said, the Celebrity was a fine guitar for me and played well. Regardless, I'm looking forward to learning more about Ovations and the community.

That price is several hundred less than what I would "like" to see, and seems lower than is customary for that model. Used guitar prices are quite depressed right now, so good for you and bad for the seller. I think you'll really like the upgrade to the 1778LX, and so the price you paid will seem acceptable. If you don't like that guitar for some strange reason, you should be able to sell it for what you have into it.

I had one, the very one that led me here initially as well and the only thing I didn't like about it was the condition that mine arrived. Given the proverbial 'box-O-chocklates' nature of Ovations in general and this forum specifically I've been the proud owner of 5 Ovations in nearly as many months. Each with it's own sound and personality. Point being that if you find the 1778 is not to your liking then stick around and find one that is. You couldn't be in a better place.

Just hold it and look at it real good and you soon what a quality instrument it is. Just set it next to a high end acoustic for three times as much, and smile.I cant say enough about the guitar.Ebony fretboard and bridge, great binding all around, the grain of the wood, all the way to the headstock, built in tuner and Preamp,I could go on and on.

I've always thought that a Proctologist should deal with household poisons and the better term would be Endo-cronologist, but I regress. The LX guitars are most excellant tools, enjoy!

Balanced, full tone and excellent playability. You're also gonna love the OP-Pro preamp. Then, later on, you can switch it out for the OP-Pro Studio and be loving life at a level only hinted at by the Celebrity.
