Joined: December 2003 Posts: 85 Location: Taichung, Taiwan | I have a Ovation Ultra Series 1527 with the original 'stack-knob' preamp and the main things I wish to do are: #1 get an on board tuner #2 get the battery in a nicer place I plug it in every Sunday morning and try to make a joyful noise to the Lord. I'm sure there are times when the guy leading worship wishes I wasn't plugged in! I'm also sure that some of you are saying the best thing I can do is get a "real" Ovation and stop messing with a plywood topped wok. If I had the $$$ to get a really good Ovation, it would still have to get past the hurdle of my poor playing! So what is the best/most cost effective way to upgrade the electronics? I'd like to keep it all Ovation, but I am in Taiwan, far from a selection of original Ovation parts. I was able to find a "Fishman Aero Blend" unit which would cost about $60. I'm not adverse to cutting a hole for it, but the under-saddle pick up is a cord/cable, not flat. On other sites they suggest carving a grove for the round cable. The guy at the guitar store said he thinks he can swap the old pick up into the Fishman unit. Does anybody have any suggestions or ideas?

Preamp install, troubleshoot, brace inspection, crack repair, etc. It doesn't alter the sound and I had the parts. And... the part about me being a clutz and having really big hands and thick wrists might have been a motivator.

They fit beautifully in X braced guitars. I have the Ellipse Matrix Blend in my Martin OM42 and HD28VS. But I could not fit it into an Ovation with A bracing. I think any of the VT bracings will also be a problem. Might work with an Ovation X braced, but I have not tried it.

AKA, do-hickies, thingies, string rollers and my favorite spare-parts. The Northwest is full of Wood choices and weekend lumberjacks. And BTW - Peter will be receiving an OP30 installation kit.
