QUESTION: what is your approach to the basic sequence of the V7th to the i minor when you play lead or write a melody? B7 to Emin or D7 to Gminor. EXAMPLE: If you're going from E7th to Aminor what's your trick? (Of course the V will be an alt chord if you extend it E7b9 etc.) For one the Gypsy guys seem to emphasize the "diminsihed" sound...

" Simply play the notes that sound right to you. Depends on how long the transition is, the melody line etc etc etc.. Maybe I'm missing something but seems like a tough question to answer out of context. Just to avoid being a smartass, I picked up a guitar and just did some strumming and in about 2 minutes came up with maybe a dozen transitions... which lead me to realize there was more to the question.

So she has to do scales up and down: harmonic minor, natural minor, melodic minor. It IS true that there are many options that sound beautiful but very different! One of my faves: A C major scale with flatted 3 (Gb)can be made to sound SWEET over a B7 chord (that's part of an E minor song)
